All-time Prem Record, plus other stats

Seeing as there’s now a bit of a lull in news during the summer break, I decided to have a look at our individual record against each team we’ve faced since we won promotion to the Premier League four years ago.

I’ve comprised a table below detailing each result against each opponent across the last four campaigns along with our total points against each side and total points available.

So looking at the above table and it appears our favoured opposition is Newcastle who we have collected a total of seventeen points from eight games which includes only one defeat. Next come West Brom, Aston Villa and Fulham who we’ve collected 15 points from – the latter being from just six matches. I bet nobody thought Arsenal would be rounding out the top five but we’ve collected 13 points from Arsene Wenger’s side and remarkably have more victories over them than they have over us.

If we look at the percentage of points available then its Fulham and Wigan who lead the way, we have won 83.3% of the points available to us in those meetings with Newcastle next in the list on 70.8%. A win and draw over Bolton in our two meetings see’s our percentage against them at 66.6% with West Brom and Villa in joint 5th on 62.5%.

Looking at our least favoured opposition then I’m sure no one will be surprised that Spurs head that list. We’ve only collected one point from the North London club so far and have no wins against them since the early eighties. Next come Chelsea, Wolves and Reading who we have held twice and we have three points from Everton, Cardiff, Leicester and Blackburn.

Of course some of those sides only featured in the Premier League for a season so the percentages would give us a clearer indication of who we dread facing. Spurs top that list too, a paltry 4.2% of the points on offer have been won by us with Chelsea being little better at 8.3%. It’s Everton in third on 12.5% and another of the big hitters in 4th in Manchester City at 16.6% with Liverpool in 5th on 25%. A lot of teams have poor records against these sides so you could say that Southampton, West Ham and Norwich are more like bogey sides for us, our percentage against those three is 27.8%.

Our longest winning streak against one side is Newcastle which stands at four with two doubles in 2012/3 and 2013/4 respectively. We have also achieved three wins in a row against West Brom, Villa and Fulham with the latter two still ongoing so in mid-October we have a chance to make it four in a row at Villa Park.

Our longest unbeaten streak is held jointly by Newcastle and Sunderland which is ongoing at 6 against both. It seems we enjoy playing both teams from the North East which makes it very convenient facing both sides in August.

Our longest losing streak is once again taken by Tottenham, we have lost our last seven meetings with the White Hart Lane side. Our next worst is Chelsea who are currently on a five game winning run against us and Manchester City sit behind them having won our last four meetings.

Tottenham, Everton and Chelsea are also on an eight game unbeaten streak against us and are the only ever presents from the last four season’s that we have failed to defeat although the latter two have been defeated in the League Cup.

One manager has a 100% record against us – Jose Mourinho with four wins in four at Chelsea.  David Moyes also has a great record against us with five wins and a draw from his time at Everton and Manchester United so if he wants to stay in Spain you won’t hear us complaining. The other men who have had the upper hand over the Swans are Andre Villas-Boas and Mauricio Pochettino who have four wins and a draw from five games against us.

Meanwhile the Swans favourite manager is Martin Jol who we have defeated in four of our five meetings with Alan Pardew and Arsene Wenger also on four but this is from eight meetings. The only other manager we have three wins over is ex Swans boss Roberto Martinez with all of these coming while he was at Wigan.

The record for goals scored against one club belongs to Michu who scored four in just two outings against QPR during 2012/3. There are a number of players who have scored three against the same side. They are Wilfried Bony against Newcastle, Stoke and future club Manchester City, Danny Graham and Jonathan De Guzman against Norwich, Nathan Dyer and Wayne Routledge against West Brom.

By contrast our chief tormentor is Diego Costa who has despite only facing us twice has netted against us an astonishing five times (a quarter of his total). A cluster of players are on four including Yakubu – who scored all four in the same game. Daniel Sturridge, Yaya Toure, Papiss Cisse, Peter Crouch, Emmanuel Adebayor and Andy Carroll are the others to have scored four times against the Swans.

Right I hope I’ve given some of you nerds out there some good stats you can form brain teasers out of, I’m off for a lie down. Wake me up when there’s some real news!
