Slide Rule Shelvey
One thing I really like about Jonjo Shelvey is that he’ll play the risky ambitious or “hollywood” pass as it’s become known. Admittedly he sometimes does it too much but he’s now learning when to take this option and his assist for the first goal was sublime. He and Bafetimbi Gomis are developing a good understanding at the moment and long may it continue.
Subdued Sigurdsson
Maybe this is harsh but I thought Gylfi was quieter than normal last week and it was a similar story yesterday with the likes of Montero and Shelvey stealing the show. However even though he wasn’t as influential as he has been in the past he still nearly scored with a worldie from outside the box. It’s only a matter of time until he starts becoming more influential again and I’m sure and when he does we will be in an even better position than we already are.
Don’t get foolishly sent off
When you’re on a yellow tugging someone back 80 yards from goal is beyond stupid. A timely reminder to our players, don’t do what Janmaat did yesterday. It’s not clever in the slightest and it will leave you with an uphill task.
Ayew is a breath of fresh air
I love the way our new signing is always looking to get into the box. He’s more an inside forward than winger. Scott Sinclair regularly did the same in the Championship and considering he got 27 goals that season it shows how much it can pay off. He could definitely hit double figures this term . Another astute purchase from Monk.
Too Easy
I know they had ten men but honestly Newcastle were awful. Once the second goal went in the rest of the game was a non event. Fabianski barely made a save and it says a lot that a rare positive for Newcastle was Mitrovic’s brief cameo and that was only because he at least looked annoyed that they were 2-0 down. No one else did. We probably won’t see a worse team at the Liberty this term.
