Player Reviews – Goalkeepers

Now the season has ended let’s have a look at how our squad fared in 2015/16. Today we will focus on the men between the sticks.

Lukasz Fabianski

Player of the year in 2014/15 – the big Pole in the goal hasn’t been as commanding in his second term in south Wales. There have been some excellent displays from him, such as at Spurs where we would have lost by a lot more than one goal on another day but there have been a few dodgy moments. He cost us the game at home to Southampton, the second goal at home to Arsenal was poor and his poor distribution put on the back foot at home to Sunderland. I still think he’s a good goalkeeper but he needs to step it up next season (he’s not the only one I’ll be saying that about)

Verdict B

Kristoffer Nordfeldt

It’s hard to judge out number two keeper on the basis that he’s hardly played. He was probably the only player to come out of the FA Cup humiliation at Oxford with any credit where he made some excellent saves. To make an honest assessment I would need to see more of him in 2016/17, although on the brief glimpses we’ve seen there can be no doubt he’s an upgrade on Gerhard Tremmel who made too many mistakes when he deputised for Fabianski a couple of years ago.

Verdict C
