Top 20 Goals at the Liberty – No 5

In the fanzine this term we have been counting down the top 20 goals at the Liberty to mark a decade at our current home. Over the next few weeks we will countdown one per day accompanied with a video of the scorer where possible. It’s our highest free kick on the list next, at number 5.

5. Gylfi Sigurdsson v Arsenal, November 2014

The highest free kick in the list and it helped to turn a defeat into victory. It all started with a memorable 50 yard run from Mo Barrow on his debut which lead to him being fouled outside the box at the family stand end. It was around 30 yards from goal so to most players it would be a big ask to score from there. Not to Gylfi Sigurdsson though, who stepped up and hit an inch perfect shot to the goalkeeper’s top right corner to give him no chance whatsoever. That levelled the score at 1-1 and just minutes later Bafetimbi Gomis headed the winner for another win over Arsene Wenger’s side.
