Top 20 Goals At The Liberty – No1

In the fanzine this term we have been counting down the top 20 goals at the Liberty to mark a decade at our current home. Over the next few weeks we will countdown one per day accompanied with a video of the scorer where possible. So here is our winner, not a player we’re too fond of these days but it’s doesn’t take away the fact that it’s our best goal at the Liberty.

  1. Jonjo Shelvey v Aston Villa April 2014-04-27

It was a tough call but ultimately this was probably the hardest strike to pull off so ultimately it has been declared the best Swansea City goal at the Liberty Stadium. Wilfried Bony has credit as he refused to let Villa keeper put the ball down to kick up field so instead he rolled the ball to… whose clearance found Jonjo Shelvey inside the centre circle. The Swans number eight controlled the ball on his chest before attempting what looked like a ridiculous shot at goal. The ball left his foot and sailed into the air and as it got closer to the goal I remember thinking “this looks bloody close here” before it sailed into the net for a quite magnificent goal. Even better was the Villa fan mocking the East Stand as the ball approached the goal thinking it wasn’t going in. Bet he felt like a prize idiot after that!
