Five things from York City

Here’s five things from our League Cup 2nd round victory over York

Britton Masterclass
We’ve said all summer that we don’t want him to go and last night showed why. He was the best player on the pitch, rarely giving the ball away, always showing for his team-mates. The expert in keeping things simple but effective. Never underestimate how good he is.

No one else staked a claim
I’m not saying certain players didn’t play well but did anyone really give Garry Monk food for thought ahead of the weekend? Nathan Dyer and Wayne Routledge weren’t bad in patches but didn’t stand out that much either for example. I don’t think the eleven that started last week will be too concerned about losing their places.

Grimes’ corners
I was chuffed to see Matt Grimes get a goal last night and think he’s a real prospect for the future. He needs to work on his corners though, several didn’t beat the first man and a few others were too deep. He’s young enough to learn though and more playing time will do him no harm.

Not as convincing as it looks
Well based on the first half anyway. York had a few chances, a header from a corner which was unconvincingly tipped over by Nordfeldt, he was also called into action to save a few shots in the opening period. York will be frustrated that they didn’t put one of these chances away.

Emnes the super sub
Regardless of who is fit Marvin Emnes should always have a place on the bench, even at the expense of a more talented forward player. This is because he makes a bigger impact from the bench than most do. A point proved by the fact he scored from the bench again last night, a good finish it was too.
