In the fanzine this term we have been counting down the top 20 goals at the Liberty to mark a decade at our current home. Over the next few weeks we will countdown one per day accompanied with a video of the scorer where possible. Our runner-up is probably the most popular player to ever appear at the Liberty
2. Lee Trundle v Yeovil, November 2005
Narrowly missing out on the top spot is a player who gave us so many incredible moments and this along with his strike in the Football League trophy was his best goal for the club. It was the 9th league game and first ever floodlit match at the Liberty when Yeovil visited us on a Friday night in November. The Scouse striker opened the scoring with a penalty in the first half and in the second produced one of the greatest goals I’ve ever seen. Bayo Akinfenwa pressurised Yeovil keeper Chris Weale into a poor kick which Trundle controlled on his chest and after one bounce launched a perfect lob from 30 yards out which went just over Weale’s head and just under the crossbar. A truly stunning strike.
